Volunteering has always been a core part of our organization. We love working with volunteers from all walks of life, from students to retirees. Our volunteers find meaning and fulfillment in the time they spend with us supporting patients, patient families, customers, and hospital staff.

Alyssa Hoyer: Student Volunteer

"I like volunteering in the gift shop because it gives me an opportunity to interact with patients, staff, and other volunteers with the same goals as myself. I am so grateful for the friendships I have already made and the experiences. I am excited to see what the rest of the year brings!”

Carole Meckes: Assistant Manager

“I enjoy making displays and helping to choose merchandise. The Atrium Gift Shop is like a little oasis in the hospital where staff and visitors can get away and relax for a few minutes. We have a wide selection of gifts, clothing, snacks and are like a mini department store.”

Lavon Marshall, long-time volunteer, Scholarship Committee Member, Former Board Chair

"When I retired from Huston Tilotson in 2001, I began volunteering so I would have something to do and to get out of the house. But now it’s a blessing to me. I love all the volunteers, employees, and students. I love to learn their stories and see familiar faces. I love being a part of the Scholarship Committee. Getting to be a blessing to those students and to lessen the financial burden of going into medicine is wonderful. I also enjoy volunteering (& shopping) in the gift shop and I’m asked all the time “Where did you get that?” I smile brightly and say “The Gift Shop!”
