Scholarship Program
Each year the Ambassadors for Community Health - Auxiliary at St. David’s Medical Center (A4CH) award scholarships to students pursuing a degree in fields related directly or indirectly to the delivery of healthcare services.
Dr General Garwood Marshall Endowment Scholarship Fund at Huston-Tillotson: Dr. General Garwood Marshall was a long-time volunteer and photographer for our organization and a great leader to the Austin community, and recently passed away in 2020. This scholarship honors his legacy of philanthropy, healthcare advocacy, and racial equity.
Patient Support
A4CH has several ways we support patients to ensure the mission is met.
Pillow Project: This includes providing pillows to patients who have had cardiac, breast cancer, or abdominal surgeries. Pillows are heart-shaped and rectangular. The pillows are all handmade with love by our volunteers. Annually, A4CH gives approximately 800 pillows per year to patients at SDMC.
Baby Car Seats Program:
When a baby leaves St. David's Medical Center they must have a car seat for their safety. A4CH provides a free car seat to families who can not afford one. How many car seats we give away depends on the kindness of people like you. Please donate today.
Care Bags: A4CH provides travel-size essentials for all patients who are admitted to the hospital in an emergency situation or are transferred from other hospitals and did not have the time to prepare a bag of their necessities. In 2024, we handed out 50 care bags to patients and unhoused individuals around the hospital.
Patient Card Program: A4CH provides the materials for the students and other volunteers to make cards so that patients that are hospitalized on holidays have something to brighten their day.
